TATAMAGOUCHE: Cold weather and harsh winds didn’t stop three scout troops and their leader from making a 10 kilometre trek from Bayhead to Patterson’s Wharf in support of Haitian relief efforts the morning of Saturday, Feb. 6. When First Tatamagouche Scouts Garrette Alguire, Brian Beardsall and Caleb Pye heard about the devastating effects of the earthquake that hit Haiti in January, they felt compelled to do whatever they could to help. “We wanted to do something that would motivate others to help as well,” said Alguire. The boys thought of several fundraising ideas, including a bake sale and a bottle drive, but ultimately decided a walk-a-thon was their best option. Scout leader Lynn Sutherland organized the walk-a-thon and accompanied the boys on the two and a half hour hike. “Our goal is to raise $250 each,” said Sutherland.
