Village Commission holds public forum to discuss dissolution application

PUGWASH:
More than 45 people from Pugwash and its neighbouring communities attended a town hall meeting at St. Thomas More Church hall on December 8 to discuss the issues surrounding the application for dissolution of the Pugwash Village Commission submitted to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board.
The meeting began with an overview of the services provided by the Village Commission by Village Commission Chairman Rod Benjamin and clerk, Lisa Betts.
Benjamin said villages without commissions have fewer services and residents often travel into the larger villages, such as Pugwash and Tatamagouche, for things like medical services, shopping and dining.
“The point of the village commission is to provide continuity so we don’t have feast or famine,” said Betts.
