Lots of activities offered during Tata's Tricentennial
6/17/2010
To the Editor: Just got back from holidays last evening and read The Light today. Congratulations on your first issue. Great job! The commemorative insert is great I thought -having been to some of the meetings with Angela I was pleased to see the finished product. In connection with the Tatamagouche Tricentennial, the Scottish Society of Colchester is planning activities to celebrate the Scottish heritage in the Tatamagouche area. In particular there are a couple of people who are giving presentations during the afternoon of the 10th July who would make interesting copy I think. One is James Finnie, a recent immigrant from Scotland who now lives in Truro, makes sporrans, consults on authentic Scottish dress and gives presentations at highland gatherings, etc. He has a web site www.veriasvincit.co.uk if people would like more information. Another of our guests on the 10th is Barry Shears who has a recent book, “Dance To the Piper” on the history of bag piping in NS and who mentions some of the well-known and influential pipers from the North Shore. He is looking for more info on them (or others) and pictures and would be very pleased to have some publicity about his talk here so that people would come out to share their knowledge of some of the old pipers who lived around here and in Pictou County. He is a piper and instructor as well as an author. On July 11th we are having a Celtic Service at Sharon Church which will include a Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans where individuals bring an article or piece of their tartan to be blessed. I am trying to get the word out so that people can contact me in advance of the service as we need to know in advance which tartans are coming so that all goes smoothly, as they bring their tartans forward. I can be contacted at 657-2806 or peggytodd@nncweb.ca. Peggy Todd, vice-president, Scottish Society of Colchester
