Dylan bash a successful fundraiser
Tatamagouche Centre was the site of the 6th annual Bob Dylan Birthday Bash and East Indian Dinner. What is the link between the two seemingly disconnected topics? Av Singh. He and his family mark May 24 as a day to celebrate the music of Bob Dylan and six years ago they decided to go public and make the event a community development fundraiser. In the past, funds have been raised for LFM Hospital, Colchester Food Bank, Tatamagouche Elementary Healthy Hot Lunch Program and the Local Food Outreach Program. This year, the $3,500 generated is going to support of the Maritime-Guatemala Breaking the Silence Network (BTS). The solidarity network supports the efforts of Guatemalans in their struggle for political, social, economic, and environmental justice (www.breaking-the-silence.ca for more information). The event, which is affectionately referred to as “curry-night” by some ex-pats from the UK, starts with a meal including dishes like butter chicken, mataar paneer, daal, naan and samosas. Many remarked that Wilf does Dylan better than Dylan! The musical talent is phenomenal and Singh said that he has to keep improving the menu just to keep up with the music. He has extended thanks the many local businesses and the annual guests, whose generosity makes the event an annual success.
