Popular CBC radio host plays in Tatamagouche

Stan Carew, host of CBC Radio 1 Weekend Mornings, is heard by many devoted listeners on Saturdays and Sundays. But he is also developing a reputation as a great song writer and performer with his band The Magpies, in support of many good causes and non-profit organizations.
Stan Carew and The Magpies will travel to Tatamagouche on June 20 to perform at the fire hall. Accompanied by bass, guitar and piano, their songs range through RandB, swing, blues, rock, cajun and country.
Stan Carew and The Magpies generously offer this concert as a benefit for the Maritimes-Guatemala Breaking the Silence Network, known along the North Shore for its work with partner organizations in Guatemala to develop relationships and projects based on solidarity, friendship and human rights advocacy.
The Breaking the Silence Network organizes and supports delegations, human rights accompaniment, youth internships and fair trade relationships. Guatemalan crafts and Just Us! Breaking the Silence coffee will be available for purchase at the event, as will cold drinks and treats provided by Carol Downey.
The concert at the fire hall begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale at Fulton’s Pharmacy and The Village Florist in Tatamagouche, Fulton’s Pharmacy in River John, and the Chatterbox Cafe in Pugwash. Tickets will also be available at the door if not sold out.
